RESTAURANT ZEST — VAN DER VALK VENLO
At Restaurant Zest in Van der Valk Venlo, Ramona Nieuwenhuisen’s floral portraits became part of the renewed interior. The first large-format works were installed in June 2021, in collaboration with Galerie Ptah.

Art for Restaurant Zest: from proposal to installation
The collaboration began with a visit to Van der Valk Venlo while the hotel was still being renewed. Owners Han and Ine van der Eijk wanted Ramona Nieuwenhuisen’s art to become part of the restaurant’s interior.
Working with Galerie Ptah, Ramona developed visual proposals for the space. This gave the owners a way to see the artworks within the interior before the large-format pieces were produced. The project moved from the first visit and proposals to production and installation in June 2021.

A collection within the restaurant
The restaurant features Ava, Nova, Boudoir, Papillon, Sakura and Geisha. Together, the portraits give the different areas of Restaurant Zest a shared character. The interior photographs show how the works sit alongside the furniture, lighting and wall finishes.
The collaboration continued beyond the restaurant. Later in 2021, Ramona created Toekan and Appelmoes for the hotel’s meeting rooms. In 2024, she made Pavone for Bar Ello, taking the bar’s wallpaper as her starting point.
