ABOUT RAMONA NIEUWENHUISEN
Ramona Nieuwenhuisen is a Dutch artist, born in Hoorn in 1979 and now based in Venlo, Limburg. She began making art more than ten years ago alongside her work as a graphic designer. Over time, art became her main focus. Since 2021, she has worked full-time as an artist.
Her background in graphic design is still present in the way she works with composition, colour and layers. Her portraits bring together photography, digital drawing and painting, with inspiration drawn from the Dutch Masters.
WOMEN, FLOWERS & SMALL DETAILS
Women are at the centre of much of Ramona’s work. Flowers, birds and other small details surround them, sometimes immediately visible, sometimes only noticed on a closer look. She is drawn to soft, warm colours and beautiful materials, and to portraits that feel both delicate and strong.
She particularly enjoys working on a large scale, giving the faces and details room to be seen. Her own collection is the focus of her practice, with new works developing over time in her studio.
FINISHED BY HAND
Each composition is built digitally, layer by layer, before being printed on a textured surface such as leather texture or felt. Ramona then works on each piece by hand, adding gold leaf, paint and other details. These small differences give every piece its own character within the limited edition.
