BEPPIE KRAFT & SJENG KRAFT

For Beppie Kraft’s 80th birthday, Ramona Nieuwenhuisen created two portraits: one of Beppie and one of her father, accordionist Sjeng Kraft. A gift from Provincie Limburg, presented during Knoevelemint in Maastricht.

Portraits of Beppie Kraft and her father

Provincie Limburg commissioned the portraits on behalf of Governor Emile Roemer. The occasion was personal: Beppie’s 80th birthday and her contribution to Limburg’s music and culture. Including Sjeng made it a tribute to two generations of the same musical family.

Ramona depicted Beppie with her microphone and Sjeng with his accordion. Musical notes connect the two compositions. The matching black frames, textured surfaces and gold-toned lettering bring them together as a pair.

Presented together at Knoevelemint

In February 2026, Governor Emile Roemer unveiled the work together with Beppie at the Gouvernement aan de Maas in Maastricht. He then presented it to her on behalf of the province. The photographs of the unveiling and Beppie’s reaction show the moment the commission became her own.
