MAGIC FOREST
The Magic Forest album cover was created by Ramona Nieuwenhuisen for composer Steven Stoffels. His orchestral fantasy score gave her a story to work with: a character who leaves home and finds refuge in a mysterious forest.
Creating the Magic Forest album cover
Steven Stoffels asked Ramona to design the cover for Magic Forest (Original Score). The commission brought together two ways of telling a story: Steven’s music and Ramona’s imagery. The cover needed to suggest the world of the score in a single image.
Ramona placed a lone figure among twisting branches and deep blue and green foliage. Small areas of warm light break up the dark forest. The contrast between the figure and the surrounding trees gives the image its sense of scale and uncertainty, in keeping with the fantasy story.
A world of sound and imagination
Magic Forest is an orchestral fantasy score, available on Spotify since September 2024. Its story follows Howard, who flees his home when war breaks out and finds refuge in a magical forest.
The first image presents the cover as a vinyl mock-up; the second shows its use on Spotify. Listening to the music alongside the artwork offers another way to experience the project.
